Knowledge Search within a Company-WIKI
The usage of Wikis for the purpose of knowledge management within a business company is only of value if the stored information can be found easily. The fundamental characteristic of a Wiki, its easy and informal usage, results in large amounts of steadily changing, unstructured documents. The widely used full-text search often provides search results of insufficient accuracy. In this paper, we will present an approach likely to improve search quality, through the use of Semantic Web, Text Mining, and Case Based Reasoning (CBR) technologies. Search results are more precise and complete because, in contrast to full-text search, the proposed knowledge-based search operates on the semantic layer
Orbifold completion of 3-categories
We develop a general theory of 3-dimensional ``orbifold completion'', to
describe (generalised) orbifolds of topological quantum field theories as well
as all their defects. Given a semistrict 3-category with adjoints
for all 1- and 2-morphisms (more precisely, a Gray category with duals), we
construct the 3-category as a Morita category of
certain -algebras in which encode triangulation invariance.
We prove that in again all 1- and 2-morphisms have
adjoints, that it contains as a full subcategory, and we argue
that it satisfies a universal property which implies
.
This is a categorification of the work in [CR]. Orbifold completion by design
allows us to lift the orbifold construction from closed TQFT to the much richer
world of defect TQFTs. We illustrate this by constructing a universal
3-dimensional state sum model with all defects from first principles, and we
explain how recent work on defects between Witt equivalent Reshetikhin--Turaev
theories naturally appears as a special case of orbifold completion.Comment: 58 pages, many diagrams and figure
Grayanotoxin I Intoxication in Pet Pigs
Contaminated honey is a common cause of grayanotoxin intoxication in humans. Intoxication of animals, especially cattle, is usually due to ingestion of plants of the Ericaceae family, such as Rhododendron. Here, we report the ingestion of Pieris japonica as the cause of grayanotoxin I intoxication in 2 miniature pigs that were kept as pets. The pigs showed sudden onset of pale oral mucosa, tachycardia, tachypnea, hypersalivation, tremor, and ataxia that progressed to lateral recumbency. The pathological examination of one pig revealed no specific indications for intoxication except for the finding of plant material of Pieris japonica in the intestine. Grayanotoxin I was identified in the ingested plant, gastric content, blood, liver, bile, kidney, urine, lung, and skeletal muscle via HPLC-MS/MS. Grayanotoxin I should be considered as a differential etiological diagnosis in pigs with unspecific signs and discovery of ingested plant material as the only indication in the pathologic examination
Detection of a conformational change in Gγ upon binding Gβ in living cells
AbstractInteraction induced changes in the conformation of proteins are frequently the molecular basis for the modulation of their activities. Although proteins perform their functions in cells, surrounded by many potential interaction partners, the studies of their conformational changes have been mainly restricted to in vitro studies. Ste4p (Gβ) and Ste18p (Gγ) are the subunits of a heterotrimeric G-protein in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. A split-ubiquitin based conformational sensor was used to detect a major structural rearrangement in Ste18p upon binding to Ste4p. Based on these in vivo results and the solved structure of the mammalian Gβγ, we propose that Gγ of yeast adopts an equally extended structure, which is only induced upon association with Gβ
The invariants of the Weil representation of
The transformation behaviour of the vector valued theta function of a
positive definite even lattice under the metaplectic group
is described by the Weil representation. This
representation plays an important role in the theory of automorphic forms. We
show that its invariants are induced from fundamental invariants
A Proof of Kirchhoff's First Law for Hyperbolic Conservation Laws on Networks
Networks are essential models in many applications such as information
technology, chemistry, power systems, transportation, neuroscience, and social
sciences. In light of such broad applicability, a general theory of dynamical
systems on networks may capture shared concepts, and provide a setting for
deriving abstract properties. To this end, we develop a calculus for networks
modeled as abstract metric spaces and derive an analog of Kirchhoff's first law
for hyperbolic conservation laws. In dynamical systems on networks, Kirchhoff's
first law connects the study of abstract global objects, and that of a
computationally-beneficial edgewise-Euclidean perspective by stating its
equivalence. In particular, our results show that hyperbolic conservation laws
on networks can be stated without explicit Kirchhoff-type boundary conditions.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figure
The Non-Autonomous Chiral Model and the Ernst Equation of General Relativity in the Bidifferential Calculus Framework
The non-autonomous chiral model equation for an matrix function
on a two-dimensional space appears in particular in general relativity, where
for a certain reduction of it determines stationary, axially symmetric
solutions of Einstein's vacuum equations, and for solutions of the
Einstein-Maxwell equations. Using a very simple and general result of the
bidifferential calculus approach to integrable partial differential and
difference equations, we generate a large class of exact solutions of this
chiral model. The solutions are parametrized by a set of matrices, the size of
which can be arbitrarily large. The matrices are subject to a Sylvester
equation that has to be solved and generically admits a unique solution. By
imposing the aforementioned reductions on the matrix data, we recover the Ernst
potentials of multi-Kerr-NUT and multi-Demianski-Newman metrics
